Crowns can help prevent damage when teeth weaken and become vulnerable to decay, cracks, or discoloration. They are typically made from porcelain to provide a natural appearance. The use of crowns can help protect your teeth and ensure that they do not sustain further damage.
Traditional Crowns
Traditional crowns can be an inconvenient process. They require multiple visits to your dentist, as well as a waiting period for the crown to be created. The first visit requires the preparation of the tooth. The dentist will remove any existing filling or the present decay from the tooth.
An imprint of the mouth is taken and the results are sent to a lab where the crown will be created. A temporary crown is placed over the tooth. This crown will remain until the next appointment. Temporary crowns can be uncomfortable and inconvenient, because they can slip out of place easily. When the permanent crown is made and sent to the dental office, the patient will come back in to have the crown attached to the tooth.
Same-Day Crowns
Our advanced computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system allows us to create custom crowns directly in the office. This eliminates the need for multiple dental visits, as well as having a goopy, unpleasant imprint taken. A miniature camera will take a 3-D image of your mouth, allowing for the most accurate crown possible. There is no need for a temporary crown, because the permanent crown will be created immediately.
